I think you've just had bad luck with Dreamer's Stones. The spell that a Dreamer's Stone casts is actually more powerful than the one Stun Wands cast. The effect of a Dreamer's Stone, when successful at all, lasts for a minimum of eight combat rounds. Of course, the virtues of the Stun Wand over the Dreamer's Stone are readily apparent to anyone who's ever seen both.

The thing is, neither one of them work against monsters with resistance to the effects, which include the undead.
