Your guys are just unlucky. I've tested for this, and it works out. The thing is, while Group 3 may be *displayed* as Group 2 in the middle of a round, it doesn't actually become Group 2 internally until the *end* of it -- for the very reason that otherwise it would screw up the remainder of the combat round.
