Back from deep in Dixie.

I returned from the Cushman meet in Cochran, Georgia (Look that up in your Rand McNally.)and, although I had only been gone from Tuesday to Saturday, I found five newspapers, seven* pounds of snail mail(mostly junk) 64 emails (mostly junk) and 579,000* posts on Rinkworks. My lone auction on eBay had gotten no bids, and most of the garden was dry enough to till.

I brought back a trophy for first place in the "Senior Step-Thru" class. It was won by my 1953ish Allstate Cushman DeLuxe model 811.40 which is a beautiful red, art decco style motor scooter with a five hp engine. The truth is that the scooter could be anywhere from a 1951 to a 1957 model, which all looked alike. I picked 1953 because that was the year I graduated from West End High in Nashville.

South Georgia weather was normal -- Wed. high 83, Friday, high 58. The meet, which is largely outdoors could best be descibed as hot, cold, sunny, cloudy, rainy, calm and windy. There was no snow or hail, but we got everything else. Still it was a lot of fun. There were hundreds of people and scooters outnumbered humans about three to one. The oldest scooter that I saw was a 1937 Autoglide, which was what Cushman called their pre-WWII scooters.

I will have pictures on my web site in a few days.
