Sam, delete the forum. It hurts my brain. posted by Brunnen-G on Friday, March 22, 2002, at 01:40:22:
I see this happen at every forum of which I've chosen to become a part. "Oh, the good old days... Oh, no one posts anything interesting anymore... Whinge, whinge, whinge... waah, waah, waah... Entertain me!"
When I last frequented this forum, Sam had a pretty good handle on monitering and deleting the really unintelligible posts. Everything else I've read here so far is legible. "Interesting", on the other hand, is subjective. A lot of people post here regularly, and are clearly interested with and entertained by what's going up on the board. To devalue their posts is personally insulting and offensive. You're telling them that what they enjoy is WRONG. Why wouldn't they feel defensive? Indeed, why shouldn't they? This is really your problem, not theirs.
Think about this: since I clearly get bored here more often than you do (hence my long, drawn-out absences), does that make me a more interesting person than you? No, it just makes my interests different.
You could easily, more effectively, and less offensively, take your own advice, "get off your butt", and write some posts in the manner you enjoy reading. You can e-mail the folks whose posts you particularly enjoy, tell them so, and ask them to post more often. If you feel the need to change the content of the forum, you might recieve a healthier response if you teach by example, rather than humiliation. So, let's see some action!
