In Boston, riding a bicycle is so dangerous because drivers actively try to run you off the road that I actually completely stopped using a bicycle. A friend's father told me a story a couple times about a frustrated biker. (In the 3 years I rode to school with them, I probably heard the same 25 stories 5 times apiece.) Anyway, this friend of his carried around a piece of drier tubing when he was biking, and when cars were stoopid, he would whap the cars with it - it didn't actually hurt the car, but did make a loud whappy noise and freaked the drivers out. They deserved it.
