To get into the shack you need other items, that come a bit later on in the game.
Now that you have the guards sword, you can kill something(s)!
Go back into the portal, come out on the other side and go back in again.Then explore that area, carefully.
If you have any difficulties in killing, check out the previous posts for inspirational help.
Make sure you explore the area carefully, there's someone there you should talk to.
