Notice you can't get through the desert ON FOOT; there are still some things you need to do first, though: have you been in the building by the desert yet? go there first. Then you might want to take a tour of the castle(i recommend visiting the kitchen; they have some lovely paintings there. You might also want to look at the view from the tower), talk to people in the village again, think about what they said. Hope that helps!
