The area that the rat runs around in at first is a 2 x 3 rectangle (2 places across each row, 3 places down each column). Assuming you've walked around and cleaned the place out sufficiently, you need to try to get the rat to the bottom right of that rectangle. If you find the rat running the wrong way, then the next time try approaching it from a different direction. You'll need to back off and circle around at least twice to get it to move the right way.
