If you go back to the area of where you found the gold coin, there will be some vegetables. get as many as those as you can. Then there is an animal in the forest that likes to eat that vegetable (you should only have to give it one). Go to the cat and try a certain option (I can't remember which one, i think that it was one that might now be so obvious) and keep clicking that option until that animal comes and helps you out. Then Voila! No more cat.
