When Midevial warlords were laying siege to a castle, they seldom tried a frontal assualt. Their foes were just too vigilant and well fortified. Instead, they would try to sneak a siege tower or ladders up to the side of the walls during the night and sneakily scale the ramparts.
You have an advantage over other invaders in that you can go to the battlements or swim to the outer base of the wall any time you like, and you should know which side of the castle the banquet hall is on. I'm sure between your quick mind and the adventurer's favorite tool you'll have the painting in no time!
