Don't know much about the whole distrust of government and government conspiracy angle, but I can tell you the real reason they're taking X-Files off the air is because it sucks nuts, and has ever since the season after the movie, at least. Chris Carter has had one good idea for a show in his life and he's been milking it long past the point where there was any milk left. Mercifully, they're finally killing it off.
