it would help if I knew where you are, some idea of your inventory. If you have the stone of strengthening, go swimming in the forest. After that, go into the gate of despair. Might wanna explore that cave by what's his name(the traveler you meet)first. No sage in there, but it will be very helpful in getting you what you need. Can't help you further without more info.
