Oh, this is a hard one. Have you crossed the chasm at the southeast portion of the mines yet? As soon as you jump off at the other side, you may have noticed that you continue to hear the mine cart rumbling around for a few seconds. Does the fact that it doesn't disappear inmediately give you any ideas?
If you haven't crossed the chasm, then you still have a bit of exploring to do, strictly on foot.
