I remember reading about this in the paper - apparently there are only about 10* non-white firefighters in the whole of New York, and the Irish and Italians are upset about the fact that they don't have a more proportional representation.

I don't really see that it makes much difference either way myself, but I suppose the moral of the story is "You're always going to upset *someone*".
