Back in my day (I am starting to say that too often) the Polar Bear Swim was used as a fundraiser. They had one every year in Peace River (in Northern Alberta) and the people participating would go out and collect pledges. I am still shocked and amazed that some people do this sort of thing for FUN. Whose bright idea was that?
