I think the place you want is deep down in the sandstone caverns. You can get there from the western entrance, but keep careful track of which way you go. And note how the sandstone changes color. That is the major clue.
You might have missed a passage; it might be hard to see. . . .
As for the stones, continue with your tasks. You might be surprised.
