There are two places you can clean up; one is better than the other, but also more dangerous. You've already been to the less effective one.

As for coins, see if anyone wants to buy some of your things. And in certain cases, keep trying -- and trying. That should give you all the coins you need.

Oh yes, there's something else that you'll most likely be doing before you can get cleaned up. Try going everywhere you can in the plaza when you're through with the litter guy.
