That's why I loathe it. it can be used to defend any position.

Using the razor to prove or disprove the existance of God sounds incredibly pretentious to me. The one who applies it must be omniscient for it to have any credence. One must understand every facet of the workings of the Universe before one might have authority to judge whether a deity would be necessary or not, and even then I'm not sure if that's enough information.
