I think he coined the phrase "I am not making this up." If he doesn't say that, you can rest assured that he is making it up.

But the powers noticed that he could be funny about things not even related to hunting and fishing, and moved his column to other parts of the paper. This gave him a world of other targets for his humor. I particularly enjoy his pot shots at Tennessee's govenor and legislature. Sam has also been known to say "I am not making this up."

You might think a collection like that was just to say, "I'm rich and I can buy anything that I want," but with Leno, I think he just likes old machinery. If he was poor like me, he might collect motor scooters and Maytag washing machine motors.

But it's so dark back there, you see little more than headlights. I know it's illogical, but I can't shake the notion that there is a Cushman way back in the back.

I saw Jay Leno once at a four-way stop on Mulholland Drive. I don't remember exactly what he was driving, but it was a smallish, not-new, regular-kind-of-guy car. My passenger waved at him. He waved back.
