I think a dead teddy bear deserves a descent burial. Your story reminded me of this one:

On a vacant lot in a city, there was the battered and rusty hulk of an old Volkswagen bug. It sat there for years until one day some members of a Volkswagen collectors club decided that it deserved better.

It was in such bad shape that it was impractical to restore it. The cost of restoration would be more than the value of the finished car. But did that stop them? No.

They contacted the owner of the lot. He had the original title of the car, which he signed over to them for free, on the condition that they would remove it from the lot. They took it to the basement shop of one of their members, pooled their money and spare parts, and working on it as they had time, they restored it to look and run like new.

Then they held an auction at one of their meetings. Many of the people bidding on the car were the same ones who had taken part in it's restoration. They saved the old bug, they built up the clubs treasury, and made one of the members especially happy because he won the auction.
