I think it's at least somewhat interesting how different fantasies portray the various mythical creatures. The best example I can think of off the top of my head is: Goblins.
In LOTR(the series, including The Hobbit), goblins are downright *nasty* creatures to have to contend with. Taking from the animated film(and we *know* how reliable that is), they look like short-man-sized crosses between frogs and toads, and wear more like period attire.
In Noddy, they are merely annoyances: putting glue in hats, stealing items of *apparently* minor value, and taking orders from a weasel-in-a-box. The LOTR goblins would probably shred the box or something. The Noddy goblins seem to have a slightly bad alignment, but with the possibility of good. The boy goblin in particular exhibits good tendencies. They look like slightly deformed humans, and dress in clothing almost clown-like in its colorfulness.
