Lost in TOA

I've been walking around aimlessly for a while in the early part of TOA, and right now I don't know what to do. I've been trying to get past the jocks with the nerds, and I have a feeling I have to tell the nerds to do something else first, although I'm not sure what. Is there anything that I can do with them first? Any pushes in the right direction?
