Stuck - and I mean stuck - in Perils

I know that sometimes you have to be persistent and I know that there is supposedly no way in AGL games that you can do something wrong or out of turn that makes completion of the game impossibe, but I appear to be stuck in a section of the Outer Maintenance whatsit with none of the doors opening and a bunch of insects preventing me from entering the control room. Any sort of hint would be welcome I hve work to do down the mines and I need to get out of here!
