August in The Valley is hot, humid, and no rain. Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Normally, we have dust devils crossing the yard in the middle of August. This year, we have had two four-inch cloudbursts and several other heavy showers. That's a lot of rain in two weeks. The garden is a quagmire with one-inch diameter weedstalks everywhere. I haven't noticed any cattails or water lillies yet, but I won't be surprised. The heat has killed the squash and the tomatoes are rotting. We got plenty of beans but then the beetles stripped them. Okra loves this kind of weather and the corn is elephant-eye high. The peppers are growing a little too fast and it gives them a bitter whang. Morning glories are pulling down the sunflowers, and I can't find the carrots. I think my birdhouse goards have flown away. But gardening is good exercise. Riiiiiiiiiight.
