There is this large metal beast sleeping outside all night. Every morning, you get up, are around the house and everything is fine. Then you go outside and the metal beast eats you, growls loudly, and runs away. The animal is alone all day. Later that evening the metal beast returns, still growling, spits you out, and once again goes to sleep. Next day, same thing. This has got to be confusing beyond belief for the pet. Of course they're glad to see you when you get home. > > Drac "Tendancy to over analyze" imaS
That may be closer to a cat's perspective than a dog's. Cats, in general, I've found, fear the car intensely. Without some type of pet carrier, a cat will almost systematically shred all of the skin from your hands and forearms while you're trying to put them into the car. Once there, they will try desparately to find a safe haven to disappear into. During this process, they may resort to that I-need-to-be-in-another-room-this-very-instant thing that cats are prone to doing. This will normally involve your arms and legs as part of the route, and consequently, more shredding of flesh. Eventually, they may find a spot to quiver in, and spend the rest of your trip making crying noises and losing hair.
Dogs love cars. If you allow the dog to even walk to the car with you (when normally they don't), the overall excitement level of the air will increase exponentially. For a dog, being in the car is like winning the Super Bowl, falling in love, winning the lottery, discovering life on other planets, having the absolute best pastrami reuben on dark rye, and finding a certain collectable that you'd resolved yourself to never ever finding in your life... all at the same time. And putting their head out the window? ....don't get me started.
