As some of you may know, famous, The Scotsman and I, along with my wife, got together to meet on Memorial Day. (of course, famous and Scots actually had already met on Saturday, but that is another story, and one for one of them to tell.)
The plan was for the four of us to convene at The Scotsman's apartment at 1:30, from where we were to head out for our planned day of activities. As usual, the Grishny family was late...traveling anywhere with a baby seems to be a big production, and we never seem to leave when we planned to. We arrived at The Scotsman's around 1:50. Turned out that famous had arrived early, much to my chagrin. But, no big deal...we weren't on a tight schedule or anything. We sat around and talked for a while, and famous got to ooh and aah over the Official RinkBaby, and then we left.
Our first stop was a coffee shop in downtown Dayton. Since famous claimed in her "Adventures with famous" post that she didn't think we had any coffee shops in Ohio, Scots and I set out to show her otherwise. Unfortunately, when we got there, we discovered that the establishment was closed for the holiday. But at least we didn't have to pay for parking. We considered going to a Dunkin' Donuts instead, but it just wouldn't have been the same. So, after a very brief walk downtown, we got back in our vehicles and headed over to the home of my parents, who had kindly allowed us to use their dining room table for the afternoon.
At the folk's house, we quickly began an exciting game of Monopoly! (that's what the dining room table was for.) And not just any game of Monopoly, no, for The Scotsman had brought along his Collector's Edition Star Wars: Episode I Monopoly set. I chose to play as Sebulba; Scots was Darth Sidious; famous chose to be a battle droid, and my wife played the game as Jar Jar Binks. In the beginning it looked as if famous had the upper hand, as she quickly acquired both of the dark blue properties of Coruscant (a.k.a. Park Place and Boardwalk). However, some wheeling and dealing by the other three of us set us all up with monopolies of our own. After three hours, we had not yet finished the game and had to quit, but after assessing the situation, we all agreed that the winner was Mrs. Grishny! (She had hotels up on all the magenta and orange properties, and had just acquired the green properties by putting her husband out of business. She was already erecting houses on the green lots when we ended the game.)
Our third and final destination for the day was Young's Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs, Ohio. (They have website that MOOs at www.youngsdairy.com. See link below.) We had a nice long drive over there, about 45 minutes, and we were all ready to eat by the time we arrived. Young's has a café and a fancy restaurant, but we were dressed casually, so decided to dine at the café. While we were eating, we were treated to the sight of a full moon outside...I would explain that further but I believe famous wanted to tell about that particular adventure, so I will leave it to her to do that in a future post. After dinner, we went over to Young's Mini-golf course, Udders and Putters, and played one round, which famous won. After golf, we went back to the café to get ice cream, which is what Young's is "famous" for! (No pun intended.) While we were finishing our cones, we got into another heated discussion about the Great RinkWorks Cheese Controversy, and the Scotsman still refused to acknowledge the logic of Sam's position, despite being outnumbered three to one. After that settled down, it was about time to leave.
The ride back to my parent's house was fairly uneventful, as I recall, since we were all pretty tired by then. After dropping Mrs. Grishny and me off, Scots and famous left for his apartment again (where her car was parked.) And that was the end of our adventure together!
