I second that wholeheartedly. I've never felt so much as if I *belonged* somewhere than I did on academic team, and at various nerdfests and geekathons, and many of the others there felt the same...

Actually, most of what gives me hope for my generation is the people I meet online. Granted, the internet has its share of frightening d00ds, but a great many of those I encounter are mature and literate and interesting.
