Why are people in love so irritating? posted by Tonya on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at 13:49:25:
> Got a question for y'all. > My roommate is deeply, madly in love and holds long, gooey conversations on the phone. Some are hours long and consist entirely of two phrases "I love you" and "I kiss you." I find this infuriating and often have to leave the room. I simply cannot stand to hear these conversations. It's not that I'm jealous and it's not because I need to use the phone (usually). Any tips on how to deal with this?
As someone who is currently very deeply in love, I can attest to the fun of I love you's and little kisses over the phone, or email, or Instant Messenger... especially when you're far away from each other.
At the same time, I couldn't imagine doing that- well, at least not over the phone; I don't think the computer stuff would bother me- while my roommate (back when I had a roomate ^_^) was in the room. Not only would it make *me* uncomfortable, I know that if the tables were turned I wouldn't want to be the one listening to it.
Maybe if you ask your roommate to limit the phone calls to when you're not likely to be around, or to take them out in the hall every so often- or to actually (*gasp*) have a real conversation you'll be able to deal with the calls better. ^_^
Failing that, you could just tell her that you're expecting an important call from someone whenever you think she's planning a mushy marathon.
Good luck to you!
