Colorado is "west" any way you look at it. A significant portion of the state is west of the Continental Divide. If you look at a map, the eastern part of the "stack" of states from North Dakota on down to Texas is clearly in the middle of the country: according to the U.S. Geological Survey, the center point of the lower 48 states is in Kansas and the center of all 50 states is in South Dakota.
