And in some cases, it doesn't even matter what your degree was in. Take me for example. My current job title is "web designer." My degree is certainly in a related field, graphic design, but if you were to take a careful look at my transcript, you would see that I didn't take a single class or learn a single solitary thing about web design in school. Everything I know about designing for the internet has been self taught or learned by experience, on the job, since I got out of college.

But having that little scroll or plaque can be important. My brother in law, also a graphic designer, was grossly underpaid for the amount and quality of the work he did for years, simply because he didn't have a degree.
