As I had expected, my hole is in the middle of the ocean, halfway between Australia and South America, on the same latitude as Tierra del Fuego (the southernmost tip of South America). If I were to assign a continent to the hole, it would be Antarctica.
It's really strange how asymmetrical the world is when it comes to the north-south directions. The northern polar circle passes through seven countries: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark (Greenland), the USA, Canada, and Russia. How many countries does the southern polar circle pass through? None! It's all inside Antarctica!
