voting

I took advantage of early voting yesterday. I am going to be traveling and was afraid I might not get back in time.

They had four new voting machines. While standing in line, I noticed that all four screens were clearly visible. With slightly better vision, I could have seen who was getting the votes.

But then two of the machines broke down and the officials stopped using the other two until they could find out what went wrong. That took a couple of phone calls, one of which lasted about ten minutes.

They got them fixed and the line began moving again.

Another thing that I noticed was that most of the voters in the line were in their 70's and 80's. I started wondering who, if anybody, was going to vote in 20 years. But then I realized that at 10 o'clock in the morning on a Friday, everybody else was at work or in school.

One thing on the ballot was a provision that would allow local governments to freeze property taxes on the homes of people over 65. That means that senior citizens would no longer worry about tax increases, IF their local government agrees. You can guess how I voted on that.
