We had a freeze predicted a few days ago, so my wife goes out to the garden and picks all of the tomatoes. Red, green, big, little -- it didn't matter. She came in with more that a bushel of tomatoes. So we have had them sliced red, fried green, in salads, on sandwiches, in sauce, and so help me, a green tomato casserole, which was better than it sounds.

We took tomatoes to neighbors, friends, relatives, and friends of relatives. We had them for breakfast all the way to bedtime snacks.

But they are all about gone now, which is a good thing, considering that we will be gone for a couple of weeks.

Now I hear that a tomato in the store costs a couple of bucks. Maybe we have been eating better than I thought. (Fortunately, the squash crop failed.)
