parking spaces

Are you having a hard time finding a place to park? When I was born, the USA had about 125 million people. This morning, somewhere in America, the 300 millionth American was born.

On the one hand, I think somebody is going to have to start building Cushmans again just in case all of those people want one. But on the other hand, where would we park that many Cushmans? Sometimes I have trouble finding a place to park my car. A free parking space is out of the question these days.

We took my wife's 90 year-old-mother into Murfreesboro, a small town that has become a city of almost 90,000. She looked at six lanes of bumper to bumper traffic and wondered where they got enough gasoline to run all those cars. Next she wondered who was raising enough food to feed all of those people. Sometimes I wonder about that stuff myself.

They used to warn us about a population explosion. People laughed about it like they do now when global warming is mentioned. But the explosion happened. It's still happening. With an American dying every 13 minutes and another one being born every 7 minutes, it's no wonder parking spaces are getting scarce. What in the world will we do in 16 years when all of those newborns get a driver's license?

Maybe I shouldn't worry about that. In 16 years, I will be 89, and long before that, my kids will come by and take my car keys away. I guess one of those 16-year-olds in 2022 can have my parking space.
