I haven't made up my mind what to do about this. Our local school system is celebrating its 100th year. I taught in the system for 33 of those years. Today, I got a letter inviting me to a reception, and it said that retired teachers who attend will be introduced at the pregame ceremony at the homecoming football game.

There was a mention of a centenial park that is in the works and an area is to be paved with bricks, each engraved with the name of a retired teacher.

The date for all of this hoopla is Sept 29. I don't know if I even want to do that. I might have to wear a tie, and I know what the weather can be like this time of year. I'm not sure I even understand the reason for it. I haven't attended a school function in the 13 years that I have been retired, and certainly not a football game.

I think I will call a few retired teachers and see what they plan to do. If enough of my old cronies show up, it might be worth it.
