This is my old overworked subject, so if you don't read it I won't be offended.

I just spent over $900 getting a 60-year-old motor scooter engine rebuilt. Everything in it was completely shot, worn out, and used up. Parts of it went to two different machine shops and I had to pay for some very rare replacement parts. The $40-an-hour labor cost is probably less than what it costs to work on a car.

Anyway, the old scooter account is busted.

Now for the important part. The old 1946 Cushman that I am restoring is not nearly finished. It won't be needing that engine before next spring at the earliest.

But sitting there in the shop next to that engine there a 1947 Cushman, the one that started my collection, and the engine in that scooter is identical to the one I just had rebuilt. But it barely runs. It needs a valve job, and maybe more.

Well, duh. No brainer. I am going to put that new engine in the 1947. I think I can make the swap before the fall meet in about a month. I've had that '47 Cushman for about 14 years now and it has always been my favorite.

The link below takes you to some scooter pictues, and if you go down to the 5th picture, there I am with part of my collection. The 1947 Cushman is the one on my left with a black claxton horn on the handlebars. Picture made in my shop. I have seven other scooters not in the picture.
