This was my first RU. Unfortunately, I was able to be there only for Saturday.
I arrived at 9:00 and got introduced to everybody. I sat next to LaZorra, who, despite her name, did not bite me. (You might wonder about that last sentence, but when you have foxes and talking dogs running around, you never know.) We did handouts and Sam read some emails that he had received. He and famous jointly read a crazy email of a submission to Computer Stupidities. Leen brought one of her saddles for people to look at. We played the memory game. I did fairly well at it, but not nearly as well as some. For lunch, most of us, except Don and Ticia, walked to a shopping center about a third of a mile from the hotel. I ate at Quiznos. I'm not sure what happened to the others. They may have fallen into a time warp. I had to stand in line for a few minutes for my food, then I took time for a fairly leisurely lunch, and I still made it back to the hotel twenty minutes before anybody else.
After lunch, we had various presentations and demonstrations. Enigma demonstrated a few Australian items. Later, he played a few songs on a medieval instrument--I've forgotten the name. He played very well. Then we watched Sinbad. I had never seen it before. I'm not sure if it's absolutely the worst ever movie, but it's certainly pretty bad. Don and Ticia had brought foam swords for everybody, so we had sword fights break out throughout the day. About 18:30, about three-fourths of us went to Casa Bonita for supper. (Link below, if you're interested.) The others straggled in later due to various circumstances. The earlier group got back to the hotel about 20:40, and we were just going inside when the ThePhan's family drove up. Her original ETA was about five hours earlier. I had to leave shortly after that.
I will eventually get a few pictures posted somewhere, but it might be a while.
I hadn't been sure quite what to expect, although I knew that the day would involve weirdness and funniness. I was definitely not disappointed. I certainly enjoyed the day, and I hope to attend other RUs in the future.
