Actually, Andrews was only convinced that his original design was unsinkable. He expressed grave misgivings about the ship as actually built, after Ismay had removed several safety features (such as bulkheads to contain hull breaches) to reduce costs, and severely reduced the number of lifeboats to provide cleaner lines.

Both Andrews and Ismay were aboard the Titanic. The designer of the "unsinkable ship" died; the man who made it sinkable managed to find room on a lifeboat.
