Poetry Pool

Valentine '97

From fissionable fellowship
A forge hot as any sun
Is found to emerge
One
(Only one)
From the breathless surge
Of blurred faces
Flying feet, lukewarm shoulders
The mouths that chatter
The glance that strays
The one that stays and smoulders
From the break and the scatter
Of hearts unnumbered
Is found at last to come
One
(Only one)
To revivify the numb
Heart
The helter-skelter mind
The shoulder too encumbered
The brow too deeply lined.
Apart
From the myriad prospects
Is found the one
The One
Elects.
