Poetry Pool

Untitled

The apple only lasted a day
I told you if you left it
there all cut and open
it would turn brown and
rotten but you didn't listen.

You pulled the curtains shut
--those dreadful brownblack things--
while the storm raged on.
You know I like to watch it,
the world lit up by photographic
flashes from the sky.

You needn't be so mean you
know, or don't you?
You should anyway, I've
told you enough times but
you don't know how to change.

The birds are gone today, the
nest seems always to have
been empty but do you
remember the five hungry
beaks all moving, growing,
leaving, did you see them go?
