Reviews and Comments

Leslie Nielsen hosts this documentary about the lives and careers of the Marx Brothers. Their film careers were familiar enough to me already, but I enjoyed this look into the before and after of their golden years on the silver screen. The documentary is primarily historical -- there are few sweeping observations about the impact the Marx Brothers had on the world of comedy -- and a book will teach you more than this documentary did. But the presentation, with clips from rare footage, evokes a real sense of nostalgia and also of loss. When the Marx Brothers fell out of fashion, a unique brand of humor was lost to us. There has never been any other comedy troupe like the Marx Brothers, and there surely will never be again.
