The Ten Commandments (1956)

Reviews and Comments

Guest Reviewer: Dave Parker:

The Ten Commandments is the greatest movie ever made, bar none. You can keep your Casablanca, you can keep your Gone With the Wind, and even the greatest musical of all time, Guys and Dolls (for which my fans will note I also have a review) can't even hold a candle to this legendary film. Charlton Heston is Moses, as far as I'm concerned -- never mind that the real Moses was probably some short curly-headed Hebrew guy -- and never mind that they played fast and loose with the actual Biblical story. I don't care if God would have come up with some better special effects than those in the movie -- it doesn't matter. What does matter is that this movie contains some of the most stirring scenes in film history. Find me the person who doesn't get chills whenever they watch the scene where God creates the tablets for Moses, and I'll show you a dead person. Show me a person who isn't impressed when Moses parts the Red Sea, and I'll show you a person who has watched Terminator 2: Judgment Day too many times. The Ten Commandments is the greatest movie ever made. I don't care if I just repeated myself, because that is one statement that deserves to be repeated. So go rent it. And remember to watch it every year at Easter when it's shown on TV. For "those who will not live by the Law, shall DIE by the Law!"
