Reviews and Comments

Billy Wilder's The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes takes Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective over new ground with what is purportedly an adventure recorded by Dr. Watson but unpublished until after his death, as it involves certain delicate matters. Much of it is a sincere Sherlock Holmes mystery story, but there is considerable satire to it as well, and Wilder's sense of humor is everpresent. While not a major work in Wilder's repertoire, this is a fun caper with deliciously wry wit.
