Reviews and Comments

One of Alec Guinness' strangest British comedies, this story of a poor, eccentric artist is a curious mixture of the usual British brand of subtle comedy with a pinch of black comedy thrown in. The hybrid is not particularly to my taste, but I did find it funny, and the writing is clever more often than not. Guinness himself wrote the screenplay, which was based on Joyce Cary's novel.
