Reviews and Comments

Alfred Hitchcock was always interested in shooting films that take place in confined locations. This one, Rope, might as well have been a stage play. It takes place in a single room, in real time, with very few obvious cuts. (Most cuts are camouflaged, i.e., the camera zooms in behind someone's back, and the cut happens while the screen is dark.) The story is about two killers who murder someone, hide the body in the room, and invite guests over for a party. Jimmy Stewart turns in a fantastic performance as one of the stranger -- but smarter -- guests.
