Reviews and Comments

Deanna Durbin had a charmed career. In spite of being under the firm hand of the studio system, where actors were not allowed to choose their own projects, Durbin was consistently cast in smart musicals and comedies. As talented as the material she had to work with, she fluorished through success after success.

Mad About Music is a very good entry in her filmography. As usual, lighthearted music and comedy are supported by an intelligent, sensitive script. Durbin plays a young woman who makes up stories about her dashing, adventurous father -- but is eventually forced to prove her wild tales or lose face. What ensues is both funny and heartfelt.
