Gorgeous (1999)

Reviews and Comments

One of the weakest Jackie Chan films in a long time, Gorgeous suffers from a script that doesn't keep its identity crisis together. I don't normally have a problem with movies that try to cross genre boundaries, but here is a movie where its different components are in destructive conflict. By attempting to be a slapstick comedy and a romantic drama at the same time, it does well at neither. The only strong scenes, predictably, are the two customary fight scenes. Jackie Chan enthusiasts may still want to slog through this transparent artifice, but unless you're already sold on the star, forget it.
