Easy Rider (1969)

Reviews and Comments

Easy Rider is often praised for being an eloquent record of the time in which it was made. But the same can also be said of Blow Up, A Hard Day's Night, and The Graduate, other defining films of the sixties that have assets beyond the academic.

Ok, so there's a rift between hippies and the establishment. Ok, so the two main characters of Easy Rider have sold out to it but remain unable to become a part of it. Now what? Easy Rider paints this picture but never really does anything with it, remaining content to brood over it instead. The result is a sorely dated film, one that speaks -- not that it had anything helpful to say -- only to a specific group of people that don't even exist anymore as a cultural entity.
